Born in the second half of the twentieth century, Dave grew up without a bicycle helmet, yet still managed to survive childhood with only mild brain damage. He can remember TV with only seven channels when the remote control was a pair of pliers.
He was home watching when "Video Killed the Radio Star"
The kids Dave grew up with all ate McDonalds but somehow managed to defy current ideology and avoid obesity. Perhaps they were just lucky, but it's more likely that it's because they spent their time outside doing things rather than inside playing video games. They listened to rock & roll music yet still managed to get through their teenage years without walking into their high school and shooting their fellow students.
Funny, but all the parents he remembers as a youth were able to discipline their kids without being sued. He was even hit by his own father once. He was told not to do something, he did it, he was smacked across his face, he never did it again.
Dave's first major mistake in life came when he chose not to take school seriously and began working full time at sixteen. This began the long trend of putting his professional life before all else, a trend that would last into his late twenties and cost him more of his personal life than he is happy to admit.
Despite a relatively successful career, Dave lost his direction and wandered aimlessly through the end of his twenties and into his early thirties. After losing his job to the post-9/11 economy in 2002 he spent thirteen months out of work reevaluating his life. During this time he put himself back in school and began chasing his lifelong passion for technology landing him in the IT industry.
While his true passion remains technology, Dave has rediscovered a hobby from his youth and in the process become a semi-decent photographer. He has been published three times and was even asked by The Library of Congress for permission to use one of his photos in an exhibit. In one of his more adventurous photographic ventures, Dave spent time in the mid-west in 2006 chasing some rather nasty weather. He still has aspirations of returning to photograph the tornado that eluded him his first trip.
As best he can tell, Dave has but three weaknesses, chili dogs, little black dresses and soft, brown eyes. Despite the chili dogs he is quite health conscience and works harder than most to stay in shape. He loves to cook but admits openly that it is only truly enjoyable when he has someone to do it for. He is an avid sports fan, listens to a wide variety of music with little taste for what's mainstream, and always regrets not being able to find more time to read. Amongst other colorful and not always complimentary descriptions, he is often called "intense." His intensity is what tends to separate him from the masses and what also tends to scare the living crap out of most people he meets. Well aware that he can curb this attribute, he chooses to surround himself with the minority who understand him instead. Along these lines he feels that the greatest gift he has been given is a handful of lifelong friends, extraordinary people by whom he is neither judged nor ever abandoned. Among them is Dave's personal hero, someone who has been dealt more pain, hardship and suffering than twenty people deserve in their lifetime, yet never quits and lives a more adventurous and courageous life than anyone he knows. She inspires him more than anyone.
